Avril is one of only a handful of registered specialists in small animal internal medicine in Australia. She loves helping pets with tricky medical conditions, using her years of specialist training and experience to find answers and provide the very best care for her patients.
After graduating from the University of Melbourne in 2011, Avril spent several years in general practice before pursuing further study and specialist training. This journey took her across Australia and overseas, including time at the Royal Veterinary College in London, Colorado State University, and UC Davis in California. Along the way, she completed a Master of Veterinary Studies, achieved membership with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Her special interests include endocrinology, gastroenterology, and immunology—but what really drives her is seeing her patients feel better and helping their families understand and manage complex health issues. She also cares deeply about the wellbeing of vets and nurses and is passionate about exploring new technologies to make veterinary care more effective and sustainable.
Most recently, Avril has launched Animal Life Source, a new animal blood donor bank designed to give critically ill pets access to life-saving transfusions.
When she’s not in the clinic, you’ll often find Avril out in nature—planting trees with Bushcare, hiking, or horseback riding. At home, she treasures time with her two much-loved pets: Mochi the cat, and Yoyo, a sweet rescue dog who recently joined the family.
